June TBR 2018

I am pretty sure that I won’t get to read half the books that I plan to read and end up reading entirely different set of books. It is mostly due to confusion and also curiosity to get to as many books as possible. Though I am enjoying my vacation, I only get a few hours per day to read. Being an Indian means to say fuck-off to privacy and ‘me’ time. I always have people around in my house, it is chaotic and I never get the room or space to myself! I definitely love my family but only in small doses. If you could relate to my situation let me know in the comments section below.
So, here is my June TBR:

All the promises that we break by Brenda Benny

40136446
In this book we follow the story of Savannah through a tragic 1990’s night. She wants to meet up with her first love Chase at the end of the night’s party but when she wakes up in the morning Chase is nowhere to be found. She doesn’t know why she is on the bathroom floor or who did it. She just can’t remember anything. However, she does know that she was sexually assaulted. Since, her first love Chase took off, her best friend Pete helps her to be normal again. I think this book is about dealing with the aftermath of sexual assault and learning the truth about Savannah’s first love. How they two meet, or why he took off is left to the readers to find out. I certainly think that this would make an interesting read. I have an e-ARC of this title sent by Netgalley. This book releases on June 5th and hopefully I will read and review it before June 5th!

In the After Light (The Darkest Minds #3) by Alexandra Bracken

16150831
I have read the first two book in the series last month and I thoroughly enjoyed them. If you want to read the review for them before you get to know what happens in the third book, head over here; The Darkest Minds, Never Fade.
So, in the third installment of The Darkest Minds series, we see how the repercussions of Ruby’s actions affect her. There is a lot on the line. Since she erased Liam’s memories in the first book, there is that to deal with. Also, Clancy Gray is a prisoner now, so she has to protect everyone from being mind-fucked by Clancy. To fight the government she has to be strong, so she needs to train. I am sure I will hooked to the pages till the end. I really don’t need any motivation to get into the book. This is such a good series and this has already occupied the spot on my all time favorites.

A Court of Frost and Star Light by Sarah J Maas

I have been putting off this book for so long. I need to get to it but something or the other is coming in my way. However, June is a new month so, I plan to complete this novella. If you have been reading my blog, you know how big a fan I am of SJM. She is amazing as a writer or otherwise. I love her.
This book tells the story of Feyre and Rhys. They have won the war, however, they lost some part of themselves doing it. Feyre is the first ever High Lady of Prythian and I think we will see her character in a new light through out this book. I am disappointed that this is just a novella, I wouldn’t mind a couple of hundred pages more. Well, it is how it is and my love for ACOTAR series is eternal. I do know that some people don’t like this series and I am deeply disappointed that they couldn’t enjoy this series as much as I did. However, every book has its own group of haters and admires. I don’t blame those who don’t like this series but they should definitely give this a second try!

Warcross (Warcross #1) by Marie Lu

37771077
I have heard really great things about this book but for some reason I couldn’t  get past 100 pages last month. I want to pick this book up again and read it with fresh set of eyes. May be I will like it this time.
The story is about a bounty hunting-super hacker, Emika Chen. What is so interesting in this book is that it is set in futuristic world, with holograms and virtual reality. So, in this world there is something called Warcross – an online virtual reality platform. This was created by Hideo who is also Emika’s inspiration to learn to hack. The way the book projects coding is way different and nothing similar to the way we code now. Being a part-time coder, I was surprised to find out this unrealistic way of coding. May be hundred years down the lane we might code in a totally different way but this book seemed so unrealistic. Sorry, I know I shouldn’t review it until I complete reading it but, I had to get that out.
So, she hacks her way into this game and becomes damn popular the next day. Her financial condition is not so good, therefore she accepts to work with Hideo. Why Hideo want her is not for the obvious reason that everyone seems to think. There is something only she can do. I really like the premise and writing style of the book but I don’t know why I just can’t seem to relate. We will see by the end of this month if I will complete this book. LOL!

Ruthless Magic (Conspiracy of Magic #1) by Megan Crewe

39718964
This book is the first in Conspiracy of Magic series. I got an e-ARC for this book by Netgalley. I think I read like 40% of the book and I really like the story. Though it is similar to The Magisterium Series by Holly Black, it does have a unique signature to it.
In this book we see how Rocio and Finn evolve as mages as well as fight the demons around them. Rocio comes from a new magic family while Finn Lockwood comes from the Old magic family. So, the nons or the non magic people know about the existence of mages and to protect them the Circle trains the young mages. They defend the nons from threats and protect them if need be. If the mage is not selected to attend the college, they will be either dampered or they have to participate in the Exam. It is a belief that the Exam is tough and asks the mages to be prepared to die.
Finn Lockwood is a mediocre mage, though he trains harder than most of the mages in his class. Since his family is a member of the Circle, who selects the candidates for the college, Finn got in. However, his friend Pree who is a better mage than him didn’t get in. He felt guilty and decided to take the Exam to prove his real worth.
Rocio also decides to take the Exam rather than being a dampered mage. There is a lot of political shady things going on in the North American Confederation of Mages. I think this first book will definitely give some hint as to what is happening in the Circle.
This book was released on May 30th, I was supposed to post the review before that day, however, I was not able to do it. I will complete this book as soon as I can and share my thoughts with you.

Claimed by Gods (Their Valkyrie #1) by Eva Chase

40092683
Aria Walton wants nothing but to get out of her mother’s house and save her brother. It doesn’t go as she planned and something unexpected happens. She dies and wakes up as a valkyrie. The four Norse gods, Loki, Thor, Baldur and Grim need her help to save their missing King.
She trains and learns to harness the power brewing inside her. She need to find the missing King and help her brother. She was just a girl trying to live her life, before any of this ever happened. The knowledge of gods and valkyries is still new to her, yet she has to learn to live with her new-found abilities and save the world. The Greek gods is the cherry on the top for this book and I am totally looking forward to read more about Aria Walton.
To me the whole premise of the book sounds fantastic and I am itching to read the book!

A Mark Unwilling (The Reckoning #1) by Candace Wondrak

39333343
This books follows a girl whose soul was sold to the devil by her parents even before she was born. Now, there are gods and demons in this book but none shall harm this girl because of her mark. She is worried about the safety of her family and friends and she needs get them some where safe.
The devil who owns her soul might come any day and he can make her do things she hates. This is not your average devil with skull necklace and tattoos all over. He is handsome with killer looks. May be devilishly handsome.
I am thinking that there is a romance angle between the devil and the girl. Also, I love reading Urban fantasy, I have read a few books in the past by S.M Reine and I absolutely loved them.
That is it guys, these are the books that I will be reading in the month of June. Four of the above books, All the Promises that we break, A Mark Unwilling, Claimed by Gods, Ruthless Magic are all e-ARCs provided by netgalley. So, thanks to Netgalley and the publishers!
I will let you know if I like any books from this list. I am seriously hoping that these books are good, because I have been reading a lot of e-ARCs lately and I haven’t liked them very much. Fingers crossed!

I’m slowly making my way through A Court of Frost and Stralight. I’m a huge fan of the ACOTAR series, but this little novella is a little too slow for me right now. But it’s amazing seeing all the characters again! I hope to finish it up this month 😀 I hope you enjoy it as much as her other books! And Warcorss took me a sec to get into as well. The beginning t is a little slow but it picks up somewhere towards the middle and the ending is great. Fingers crossed that you end up finishing (and enjoying) it this month!

That is exactly how I felt when I started ACOFNS. It was really emotional though. I am currently planning to buy a hardcover of Warcross, once I get that in my hands I will revisit this amazing book that everyone seems to like.
