Book Discussion: Never Fade (The Darkest Minds #2) by Alexandra Bracken
I cannot say how amazing this series has been. I loved it so much. I am yet to complete the third book in this series but I am getting there. It has been so much fun reading the first two books in the series. I said that the first book was slow-paced and it took sometime for me to understand the Psi world. I am glad that I came across this book. Well, this series is so popular among the booktubers, yet it took this long for me to finally have read it! I am so excited to be discussing Never Fade by Alexandra Bracken with you.
Let’s get started…
So, the plot of the story gets 5/5. Beautifully executed with fantastic twists towards the end of the book. If I were to change something in this book, it would be nothing. Everything was perfect for me. I loved how all the characters came together at the end. I felt like a lot has happened in this book. When compared to the first book a lot of events happened and also this book covers a larger period of time. The story in the entirety has come so close to the ending but still there is more to it which will be dealt in the third book of the series. After reading this book, there is a benchmark for other dystopian series out there. Nothing can compare to this. Lot of emotion has flown in this book. My heart came this close to breaking every time something happened to the characters. The story just pulled me in. Amazing experience. I was feeling everything the characters were feeling and it was graphic. I could see, smell and feel all the scenes.
This book really showed us the real Ruby. This is by no means a happy book, it was sad, bitter, excruciatingly painful to read every page. Just when you think that everything is going to be all right, the author has to kidnap or hurt someone. Why??? But I think that is the beauty of this story. The nation has been in pain for nearly a decade and the pain was evident in every page of the book. There is no way I can explain you the range of emotions this book has unearthed from me. I experienced sadness to hopefulness in length of few pages. My brain was overwhelmed with all kinds of hormones that cause all kinds of emotions.
This kind of action filled, emotion guaranteed package is very rare to come by. Now that I have delved a little deeper into the Psi world, I am recommending this book to everyone who wants to read a good book. This is more than good. For lack of a better word, what I experienced through this book is magical!
Discussion: Spoilers Ahead!
I really liked where the story started in the second book. It was confusing at first, to understand what Ruby is doing and who the hell is Vida? However, few pages down the book, I could grasp most of the things that happened after Ruby joined the league. There was lot of action from Ruby in this book. She has finally embraced her Orange abilities and started using them. Though she was not willingly using them, she did learn a great deal from the league’s instructors.
I did miss Chubs and Liam in the first part of the book. Jude and Vida were new characters but I have grown to like them towards the end of the book. Vida’s sassy bad ass character really complimented the team. Jude is cheerful and always hoping for the best, Vida is resourceful and confident, the team leader, Ruby is very calm and always tries to think straight. We haven’t really seem much of Nico until the very last but it was okay.
The truth that the league was corrupt was gut wrenching. Rob always came of as a villain and it turned out he was the one behind uprisings in the league. However, I absolutely didn’t think that Rob would capture Ruby after the attack at the hangar.
Their time with the fake Slip Kid was really painful. Knox was totally an obnoxious character but his character’s influence, really brought out the Ruby’s real abilities into light. I was waiting for that single moment for so long.
The bombing by the president at the end was an unexpected shock. I never anticipated this sort of ending though. I have had some ideas as to how the second book would end but I never thought it would end on a bitter note. It was a bittersweet ending. I mean the truth is out, everyone knows what is happening. No one is hiding or sitting on the truth now. However, at the same time the full realization and extent of spoilt American government can be overwhelming. The third book will be really important. It has to deal with lot of raw anger and emotions of the Psi kids. Also, the good league agents side with Psi kids, we have to see how this relationship goes.
Overall, this book was truly admirable. It was a fantastic read. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to pick up a heavy action packed novel. It had everything I wanted in a good dystopian novel. Strong female characters, right amount of emotions, thrilling plot and lots of action.
Let me know in the comments section down below if you liked this book.
