Reading Classic Challenge #1
Hi again. I am not a big fan of classics. Mostly because I don’t get the conversations and the English is too weird. However, classics have a place in English Literature and I want to explore everything as a book-worm. So, I have made up my mind to read classics. This post is about how its done.
As a classics NOOB, I would like to start one book per month. I already fully decked TBR. No matter what I do, it is not going to end and I would love to see it empty someday. Therefore, one book per month. More than that, I would give up reading!
For this month, I am choosing Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. This books cover has been my facebook profile pic for so long. I thought at least if I look at it everyday I would pick it up and read. Well, I obviously didn’t care for that. So, now I have strongly made up my mind and I am going to read classics no matter what.
Here is what I know about Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.
The book is about Emma Bennet and it is a romance novel. The book explores the education, mentality and marriage during the British Regency Period.
I have actually read couple of chapters and all the characters in the book sounded meaningless. Now, I am going to read the book with a fresh set of eyes. If you guys have any experience reading classics, please comment below, that would help a lot. Also, suggest me some nice classics which I can easily relate to.
The second book that I am planning to read is Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. I know that this about four sisters and how they grow to be women with responsibilites. I think this would be interesting since we are able to see the childhood as well as adulthood stages of the same person. I have heard that this classic is critcally acclaimed and very popular.
The third book that I am planning to read is The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. I am picking up this book because I already read one of his works. We had to read The Importance of Being Earnest for my class. However, I really enjoyed discussing this book with the rest of the class and I hope I will be able to finish it.
These are the three books that I will be readin over the next three months. Not that I would give up other books for the sake of these three books. I will continue reading the books on my TBR and also make some time for these beautiful and wonderful works of art which I haven’t devoured yet.
So, if I don’t post the review of Pride and Prejudice, please feel free to torment me in the comments!
