Book Discussion: Priceless ~ Forbidden Men #8 by Linda Kage

I recently started reading romance novels and I really like them. This is one of the novels that I really enjoyed reading. I will have you known that I am not a big fan of romance novels and this is my very first try, so if I sound crazy in the review, please let me know in the comments section below. 😉
There are nine books in the Forbidden Men series and this book Priceless is the eight of the nine book series. However, each book is a different story and you don’t have to read all the books before this one to understand the story.
I really liked the concept of the book and it made me think of beauty as something non tangible entity. Most of all this book made me feel good.
The story goes like this. The book is written in alternate point of views so, it was damn interesting to see the story from both sides. So, the hero and heroine are best friends since they were thirteen years old. Even their families are so close. Everyone in their families want Brandt and Sarah to date. Sarah has been suffering from Cerebral Palsy from her childhood and due to that she can’t use her legs. She can move them and stand but she can’t walk or run. Some muscle movements are impossible for her and she never regrets are condition once. Throughout the book, Sarah was always confident even if she was this close dying.
Brandt, on the other hand can’t keep his emotions in check and always relies on Sarah to make him feel better about the situation and Sarah helps him calm down. The conversations between them were realistic and I was definitely feeling what the characters were feeling. A really good book indeed.
However, Sarah thinks no body would ever date her or kiss her because of her situation and it is kind of true because she is 22 years old and still a virgin. She never dated until then. One day, a guy named Seth asks her on a date only to know that she was part of a bet and Seth totally had no interest in dating her. After this epiphany, Sarah vents to her best friend Brandt. He loved her so much but never revealed it in fear of losing her as a friend. Therefore, now that she is feeling bad about herself, Brandt kisses her and she was shocked at the time felt so happy.
One thing leads to another and she asks if he would have sex with her if only for once. She asks him only because she doesn’t want Brandt to date her because she is disadvantaged when compared to other women Brandt dates. However, he feels hurt because she doesn’t love him the way he does her. He thinks she just wants to have sex with him and nothing more. Sarah also loves Brandt but she doesn’t say because she doesn’t want her best friend to spend rest of his life with a crippled woman.
Lot of things come up and Brandt’s mom who abused him as a child returns after coming clean of drugs. However, this rehashes all the things Brandt has been trying to erase from his memory. His sexual life was effected ever since his mother abused him but slowly he learnt to live with it. He shares all the secrets with Sarah except for this one thing and when his brother Cole reveals it, he feels embarrassed.
Sarah again helps him out of the misery and makes him feel good. The best part about their relationship is how emotionally matured Sarah is. It is like the perfect balance and they are in tandem. That is so cute to read and also refreshing.
I think at the core, this book is about how outer beauty and appearances don’t affect the way we feel love for one person. Brandt could have dated anyone he wanted, but he fell in love with Sarah not because of how beautiful she is from the outside but how beautiful she is from inside.
There is nothing much I can say about this book except how good it is. I read around seven romance novels along with it and I am writing the review for only this book. I can’t say enough good things about this story. If you haven’t read this one, you should definitely do it right away.
