# Latest on the Young Adult Shelf ~ May 2017

Okay, I think it has been a while since I posted something related to books. So, I thought of listing out some of the best Young Adult books which are going to appear in the book stores near you real soon. This post will give you a brief intro about those books and I will tell you what I think.
anti social
The first book you should seriously considering buying is “Anti Social” by Jillian Blake. This book is about teenage lives and how sharing too much of your personal stuff in the social media can affect your lives. Alexandria Prep is a beautiful place. Most of us think high school is fun and you can do whatever you want. Unfortunately for these students at Alexandria prep, having secrets have become a big pain in the ass. One determined hacker hacks into mobile phones of popular guys in the school and leaks their personal information. It is all fun until your turn comes. Anna is very lonely after her star basketball boyfreind dumped her for no real explanation. Now, she is about to join the list of the hacker’s victims. How is she going to protect herself from being embarrassed?
I think this book does really have potential to make its way into teenager’s book shelves. The plot line is intriguing and who doesn’t want to read about high school gossip. I have already made a request in Netgalley for the review copy. I am totally looking forward to read this book.
I belive in a thing called love
The next book down the list is “I belive in a thing called love” by Maurene Goo. This is going to be published around 30th of May 2017. I have never read one of Maurene Goo’s books before.
This plot is not that interesting because it is a typical nerd-love-story novel. The girl in the book is so nerdy and she is damn sure that she will get into Stanford. Well, a nerdy girl can never know how to flirt XD. At least that is what movies and book show us right? So, this girl never experienced true love. When she suddenly sees an awesome hot guy in her school, she falls for him.
I never watched Korean Drama, but my friends do. So, from their experience they told me that all korean dramas mostly have short plot lines and they all end very quickly. Apparently my friend had finished like one drama per day ( she binge watches!) in her vacation. But the important point being, the hero and heroine gets together and they live happily ever after.
Desi Lee, the girl-with-no-boyfriend-experience, follows some tips from K drama and tries to get a date with this hot guy. Later when she truly falls in love with someone she understands that K drama is never going to help her. Well, K drama is fiction. We can’t always take decisions based on K drama. Now, can we? 😉
I did not like the plot very much, because it is so stereotypical and boring. May be the author’s writing style might help me get through the book. I will definitely post a review on this book!
dear reader
I usually like books which differ from general mind-set of people. I would choose a novel where there is no real lead but the story some how still goes on, rather than a book which has a lead and a story which follows him/her. This one right here is pretty unusual. Flannery is a seventeen year old girl and she likes Wuthering Heights. I never read Bronte sisters but I like the fact that this girl like to read books.
Her AP english teacher, Miss Sweeny is the only person who protects Flannery from the mean girls of Sacred Heart School. Flannery and Miss Sweeny have a very special bond. When one day Miss Sweeny does not show up for the class to teach her favorite novel Wuthering Heights, Flannery thinks something is fishy. She takes Miss Sweeny’s copy of Wuthering Heights and she never turns it into police custody. Well, police did come to throw an enquiry on Miss Sweeny’s sudden disappearance.
It turns out,  very “magically”  that the copy which she left is Miss Sweeny’s personal journal and there Flannery finds out that she is living in New York. To solve this mystery she sets out to Manhattan and there she meets Heath a handsome guy. Later part is meeting Miss Sweeny and the chemistry between Heath and Flannery.
I will definitely give it a shot. Out of all the books I am going to post in this article this is my favorite.
grit
I think the cover kind off looks cool and I am telling you, I love books with cool covers. Some times I just give them five stars, just because the cover is so damn awesome. This is “Grit” written by Gillian French. I have always observed people doing this – we judge. We judge a little too quick to understand others fully. That is a very bad habit we inherit. I guess it has become one of the traits of being a Human. This book is about a missing friend and how differently the protagonist deals with her loss.
The protagonist is introduced as a ‘town slut”. This line kind of intrigues me. Who would choose a person with bad character as a lead and run the whole story around her? She sleeps with every guy. She knows how to have fun. But her friend is still missing. Everybody in the town starts questioning her and she doesn’t have an answer.
When Darcy the town slut runs for Bay princess festival someone tries to reveal something which matters to her. Something which happened on 4th of July. Can she be able to handle all that which comes with keeping secrets? Who is that person who kidnapped or killed Darcy’s friend? What does he/she have to do with her?
OMG! this little town slut has a lot of secrets and “Pretty Little Liars” is nothing compared to this. I really really really want to read this book.
it started with goodbye
It started with Goodbye” by Christine June. Unlike Grit, this cover is not that great. Nevertheless you should definitely read this book. Tatum Elsea ( such a weird name for a 16-year-old girl) is accused of committing crime. We don’t know what happened and she is under house arrest. Her step mother is not that sweet and you know step mothers are in general. All her family and friends kind of drifts away from her. So, she develops a new habit of graphic designing.  This keeps her busy through out the night and to make her day better in the morning she joined community service. Everything is going on okay. Suddenly she gets a chance to hold the leverage against her step mom.
Tatum comes to know that she is not the only one with secrets. Her step mother apparently has some kind of a big secret which for obvious reasons she does not want to reveal. They both make amends to hide their secrets from other people and live peacefully. The book is going to be about the Step mother and our sweet Tatum. How that one little secret changes their life in ways they can’t even fathom?
I should totally read this book and in fact I am ordering this right now!
That is it guys for this month’s Young Adult New releases and I will post the reviews as soon as finish reading these books. Also I am going to post a separate article for general fiction recommendations excluding YA. So don’t miss out.
